March Break Preparations

March 12th, 2009 by wanaderer

Well March Break is almost here and no one is more surprised then I am to watch this week fill up with appointment after appointment.  Right down to a trip to the dentist for me for a root canal.  This makes me annoyed because now I have to  arrange for Ben and Peter to do something while I’m out of commision.  I have extra nerves near the roots of my teeth and need laughing gas to not feel the pain as local freezing lasts about five minutes if it’s done properly.

But even with appointments I’ve been able to find five possible days to do things as a family and the plans are:

- visit the Ontario Science Centre if it’s nice weather we can walk to it and bad weather take the bus. We’ve taken Ben here before and he ran himself silly in about three hours it’s was funny to watch him get soaked at a water table that let him explore different things from fishing, boating, and redirecting water through clear plastic tubes.

-while Pete is out visiting friends I’ll take Ben to the Royal Ontario Museum.

- on the weekend I’ll make up some homemade clay when I find the recipe again I’ll post it here because I found if it was kept in an air tight container it lasted for months and it was completely ediable, cheap to make and easy to use.

- I’ve bought finger paints and will get some thick paper so that he can “draw” as he calls it.  Ben is very serious about his art. He has lots of crayons that he keeps organized in their original case. Two years old and he kepts things organized I hope it’s not something else to worry about.

- If the weather clears up and warms up enough we might try to take a walk in the Don Valley

-any ideas of what else I could add to the list? Anyone?

It’s been a week of new words and new things from Ben. Ants, Tongs, are a few words I remember him saying proudly.  He’s finally learnt to kiss and not just blow kisses.  The bathroom door now has to be secured all the time as I found him standing on his stool with the tap running a cup in hand just drinking all he could.  This can be dangerous as you can actually poison your body with too much water.  You can actually water down your whole system and it can kill.  Ben doesn’t know this and the concept is too complex for him so we feel it’s safer.

We may try to change his crib to a child’s bed during the March Break.  Who know’s if it will work or not.  We will have to change his room around as he’s been climbing into his window sill that’s like a foot deep and five feet long. But it still scares me.

Beginning of April we’ll be replacing Peter’s chair with one from Ikea because he’s broken an old rocker that my father gave use.  It has springs and made oddly well Peter isn’t a small man and he doesn’t sit comfortably in most chairs because he’s long and heavy. Most chairs either have a seat not wide enough or not high enough.  He also likes to rock and I took him to Ikea and we actually found one at a decent price.  We’ll buy a second one later in the year for me as I’ve got another old rocker that’s made some worrying noices too.

I’m saving change for a new bedframe from Ikea.  I’m an addict to Ikea things due to their price points and recycling/renewable pledge.

Well I’m fading it’s off to bed for me I’ve a child’s room to change around tomorrow.

I have a little guy that likes to play in the bathroom as well. Only it seems to be the toilet that draws him in there, Yuck!

I love IKEA too! Too bad the closest one is 8 hours away in Montreal! Hope you’re having a fun March Break, and your procedure at the dentist went well!
