First of all, I would like to point out that I NEVER get sick, I just don’t really have time for it! This week Mike is in the field, which basically means work is making him do hardcore camping about 10 mins away from home every night. This happens quite a bit, and I am used to it, but of course this week we all had to get sick, even me! Not super sick, but we all had colds and I had a really bad headache that would not and still has not gone away!

To make matters worse, Riley’s best friend’s family is being posted this year! They leave on Friday morning, so he is sad and wanting to spend as much time with him as he can, which I understand! They are wonderful people. Some of the only friends any of us has here since we moved and they are moving to where we came from!! We just switched places! It is going to be a hard week for the kids.

To try and make things easier, we are going BACK to my mom’s house so that the kids can be distracted by the fun and games that is Nannie and Poppie’s house!! Hopefully Mike can come too, but with this course he isn’t sure if he can get away, he needs to study. The army is so much like high school!! They have homework and tests and “field” trips, haha! Ok I must be tired because I really found that funny!

I should end this post for now, the sick kids need their sick mommy!

Happy Canada Day everyone!!!!

We had a busy long weekend! We had Riley’s 6th birthday party on the Saturday, had his friend spend the night that night, then drove to my mom’s house the next day! We were supposed to only spend one night because Mike had to be back at work the next day, but then we got a phone call. Baby Brenna had her 1 year old check up on Wednesday (today) and it is a 2 hour trip to get from our house to the dr’s (same town as my mom’s), so we decided to stay, well the kids and I did, Mike had to bus it back home so he could be at work on time on Canada Day morning!!

I, of course, did lots of shopping while I was at mom’s. Went to Old Navy, Children’s Place, all the good stores, lol! The kids had a blast with Nannie and Poppie. My sister took Riley to see Wall-E and because of that he became her best friend ever!! He wanted to go with her and her friends anywhere they went and he never wants to go anywhere! He kept asking me if he could “spend time” with Auntie B, isn’t that sweet?

Miss Brenna is 21lbs 5oz and 30 inches long. She handled her shots like a trooper, although she is not a fan of the doctor!! She cried as soon as he looked at her and didn’t stop until we left the office!! He is really a nice doctor! He used to be my paediatrician when I was younger!! She just doesn’t like men…not going to complain, haha!

Hope everyone had a good long weekend!! Hope I can get some pics on here soon!!

So today was officially the first day of summer vacation for Riley. I was so excited because I thought, woo hoo, we get to sleep in this morning, ummm, not so much! The girls NORMALLY would sleep until 8:30 if I would let them, but this morning, they were awake at 7!! Not impressed! Riley slept until almost 9 though, it would have been nice if I could have slept too!

So because Miss Brenna has a VERY bad sunburn, the girls and I couldn’t go outside until later when Mike got home, because I don’t want to take her out in the sun and because we don’t have our fence yet, Kyla can’t go outside without me, but Riley played with his friend for a while and then after Mike got home, we FINALLY convinced him that we should blow up Riley’s “Rad Raceway” which is a super cool slip n slide with a ramp type thing….way cool! Riley and our neighbor and Kyla were playing on that thing with FREEZING cold water pouring on them at 7 at night! And of course, we had just mowed the lawn, so they were covered in grass at the end, but they had more fun than you could imagine! Brenna had fallen asleep right before the fun, poor baby.

We had to stop because of the thunder we kept hearing or I am sure they would still be out there now, and it is 10! I do love summer, not having to stick to a routine, not NEEDING to be anywhere first thing in the morning. It is wonderful. I think I might be one of the only mom’s who looks forward to summer. The kids are so much more relaxed and easy to get along with, and we get our fence soon (2 weeks I think!) and that will make it easier!

We watched Last Comic Standing tonight, which is one of “our” shows. We have 2, Last Comic Standing and Hells Kitchen which we always and only watch together. In fact the last time Mike was overseas, I PVRed EVERY episode of Hells Kitchen and didn’t watch any of them so I would watch them with him, I know it sounds weird, but everyone is weird right? Anyhoo, onto LCS, they were doing the Vegas auditions where they figure out who goes to move into the house and my absolute FAVORITE comics got in!! I love Jeff Dye and God’s Pottery….they are so funny that sometimes I think I am going to wet my pants! Mike said he would be happy as long as Paul Foot got in, and he did also! The only one we weren’t happy about was Ron G. He was just annoying, not funny, Shazia Mirza should have gotten in instead, but whatever, I guess they can make mistakes. Ron will just have to be the first one kicked out of the house! Next week is the 2nd half of the auditions. I don’t remember if I have a favorite on that one yet…oh yeah I do, Papa CJ from India….SOOOO funny….I highly recommend you watch it!

Anyways I should get to bed, we are having Riley’s 6th birthday party on Saturday and I am, like a moron, making his cake, and he is a HUGE Star Wars fan so I am making him a Boba Fett cake, and we need to get all the stuff for goody bags yet, as well as his present, lol! Yes, I do procrastinate!

Hi everyone!

Well my name is Katie and I have decided to start this blog to start having a place to talk about raising kids in an army family! My husband has been on 2 tours to Afghanistan and 1 to Sri Lanka (DART deployment, not the same thing, but he was still gone!) and is getting ready to go to the ‘Ghan again next year. We have 3 beautiful children, Riley is 6, Kyla is almost 3 and Brenna just turned 1. Brenna was actually born while he was on his last tour.

This is our story, our life!
