It’s shaping up to be a beautiful day, but I have to admit I’m a tad jealous.
Last weekend we were fortunate enough to get away for the long weekend to a beautiful cottage in the Ipperwash area. The weather was garbage though, if it wasn’t raining, it was cold and dreary and trips to the beach last no longer then 15mins at a time.
Despite the weather - we had an amazing time. Not only we were fortunate enough to spend some time with Titia, but we also spent some good quality time together as a family. These times are nothing short of a treasure for us, with Gord and I working opposite shifts and weekends that usually involve several obligations or errands - good quality family time is some what of a rarity here. The cable at the cottage wasn’t working and there was no internet……*GASP*. From the moment I found out the cable was out - I came armed with Scrabble in hand and a few DVD’s for DS.
We didn’t get to the cottage until late Saturday afternoon - just in time for Titia to pull in behind us. LOL! We unloaded, cooked up some dinner and after Myles was tucked into bed - we pulled out the Scrabble board. For reason’s I won’t mention - the game was really blur. I believe however I may have caused the untimely (or perhaps timely) end of the game by moving a few letters on the board! Gord was quite pleased to gloat and declare himself the winner!
The next morning while Gord was still sleeping Titia popped by to have some coffee with me - after chatting for a bit she headed her way and I started to plan our day. Myles and I took a trip down the beach but didn’t last very long as it was very windy. Once Gord was showered and dressed we headed to the local grocery store - picked up a game of Yahtzee and some colouring items for Myles. Given as it was promising rain anytime we knew we were meant for indoor play again. Before headed back to the cottage we stopped at the beach to fly Myles kite. We flew it for about 15 mins before the rain begin. Back to the cottage we go - Myles pulled out his painting supplies and drew quite a few beautiful photo’s. After dinner - armed with several Dr Zuess books we all piled into our bed and read stories. This was hands down the best moment of the weekend for me. I was snuggled in with the two most important males in my life. Next thing I knew it was almost 9pm - I had a nap! I never nap! The power of being relaxed :). Once we got Myles into bed, Gord and I played a very competitive game of Yahtzee only to end up in a even tie at the end.
I was really sad to have to pack up Monday morning - and was greatful for once, to be without cable and internet. I’ve already put my request in with the owner to rent again next year - letting him know we aren’t worried about not having cable!
Here are some photos - for the incriminating one’s you’ll have to bribe Titia, my batteries died Sat night.
