My thoughts on day to day life……

Back to Basics

Sometimes it takes the simplest things to take you back to really what is important.

The past few days have been an emotional roller coaster. My thoughts have been this jumbled cloud racing through my mind. Trying to make sense out of things that really don’t make any, trying not to take let hurtful comments get me down. Need I say anymore??

Today - it hit me, the trivial crap doesn’t matter. It’s the basics that do.

This morning I headed out to my hair appointment. It was sheer bliss, being relaxed and pampered and reaching an end product that not only looked good, but made me feel great! (This could partially have something to do with the fact that my amazing hair dresser, covered all my grey’s LOL). After my appointment was done, Gord and I switched off - he got his hair cut and I hung with Myles. We spent a good chunk of time having him read me *One Fish, Two Fish* and the *ABC* book. (I love his passion for reading, and being read to).

When Gord got home I thought what the heck let’s go to the park. We headed over to Riverside, one of the bigger parks here with a playground that DS loves. Myles was in heaven and every time he went down the slide he ran over to me, gave me a high - 5, a kiss and said Im gonna go play again. He was having a ball. About an hour later we decided to pick up some dinner and do a picnic in the park downtown. We grabbed a table by water and watched as people in canoes and kayaks drifted on by. After dinner we headed over to the playground at that park, where Myles decided he was ready to try the swings again. (Last year, he hated them). This time he was having a blast - this is when I realized it’s the basics that matter. The contagious laugh of my little boy as Gord pushed the swing from one side, and I on the other. The smiles on both Gord and I as we watched the happiness in Myles eyes, the moment that I knew would forever be etched in my memories. Today was one of those days that 30 years from now I will look back and say, it was a great day, we were spending time as a family and sharing a moment that is special in so many ways.

The reality to me is, it is so easy to get caught up when things are going wrong, and focus too much attention on the negative. Stop and smell that rose….this is the moment that people around you will remember forever.

Today it’s not my head that is overpowering me, its the love in my heart for the two most important people in my life - my fiancee and my son.

An adult laughs four times a day on average. A child laughs 163 times a day on average. Laugh more often.
