Loving the lilacs! Their friends the wasps….. not so much!

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

Another weekend over, but we got a lot done.  Friday night and Saturday morning we made the kids purge their bedrooms, got rid of a lot of stuff!  But this needs to be done ASAP because our condo has a big bin parked here for a few weeks and we think now would be a good time to rip out all the flooring upstairs and install the laminate!  Hopefully we can start next weekend, the big decision is whether to start in our room or the boys….. I think the boys but whatever….  Scratch that…. Rowan’s in a soccer tournament next weekend…. ok well maybe the next weekend?  I guess we’ll play it by ear.

Saturday night we watched The Waterhorse on PPV, it was quite enjoyable!  Very nice movie to watch with the family.  Then after it was over I went to bed and read Outlander, just continued the historical Scottishness!  I finished Outlander in bed this morning.  I am torn whether to start Dragonfly in Amber or get into the Kresley Cole books I bought…..  I think both!  lol

Yesterday and today I did some work on the yard, I got the grass cut and trimmed, we went to Costco and a local garden centre and bought some hanging baskets and plants for the containers, cleaned up the raised bed, hacked back the climbing thing that grows there…. no idea WHAT it is.  Installed our solar lights, looking forward to what they look like after dark… if they are charged enough.  Here are some pictures!

Oh and the lilac bush is blooming again this year…… smells lovely…. but holy wasp magnet!

On another note…. Master Rowan woke up this morning excited that it was now June, because that meant he wasn’t grounded anymore….. hmmmm *I* know it’s actually only been 3 weeks, but *he* thinks it’s been a month, and James says “he’s been really good…. let him go outside”  softy!  So he is no longer grounded but with the stipulation that he is NOT to play with that other boy again, because whenever he does he gets in big trouble, hopefully their house sells soon and they move!  Don’t need him tempted to play with said boy all summer vacation.  Rowan did get to do something interesting today, he had a bicycle safety course put on by the city at our local community hall.  He said he had a lot of fun, I asked what he learned, he said “not to stop your bike with your shoes”…oky doke then.

Playing the Pseudo-Single Mom… and not liking it!

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

James is off in Calgary for work for 3-4 days and I am completely out of sorts!  I do not function well as a pseudo-single parent, even for a few days.  The first night is usually ok, it’s a novelty to be on my own with the kids.  But by night two I am ready for him to be home!  I miss talking to him, cooking supper with him, hanging out in the evening with him, even laying in bed next to him sleeping while I read *sigh*  It really hits me how much I depend on him to help around the house and with the kids.  Tonight is night two…… At least I have Survivor to occupy me after the kids are in bed!  Tomorrow is Friday so I’ll have to think of something fun to do with the kids in the evening to keep us busy.  Saturday I’ll get housework done and he should be home by Saturday evening, he has apparently invited our friends over (I heard from them lol)  He wants them to bring their Rockband thing over to play on the new TV.  He told her that’s for the kids, while we play Rummoli, I’m thinking there will be somegrown ups playing RB too lol  Well at least I know he misses us as much as we miss him, he hates to be away from us and always tries to bring some of us with him when he travels for work :)

Another thing that has me out of sorts is the time of year.  I used to LOVE spring when I lived in Ontario, everything was green and fresh… here in Alberta I HATE this part of spring, everything is brown and dirty and dusty and there is garbage everywhere now that the snow has melted and revealed the trash the litter bugs left behind all winter.  It seems to stay like this for weeks before true spring hits, so it leaves me kind of gloomy.  I won’t be able to plant any flowers until at least the long weekend in May, although I do have some bulbs sprouting a wee bit, that will hopefully get me through.

I hope everyone had an awesome dinner with friends/family!  We had a fantabulous dinner Sunday at my friend Stacey’s house, turkey, ham, and all the trimmings, great company too!  We even went back tonight to eat the leftovers with them Grin

We have finished our painting!!!!  The walls are green!!!  This is the darker green “wasabi spice”

This is the hallway, it’s a lighter green called “kyoto spring”.  I’m not convinced I like it, I might change it after we are done the kitchen, but I’ll live with it for awhile and see if it grows on me.  If not, I’ll use the rest of that paint for a bathroom.

That is our new screen door in that photo as well.  Since we were painting the kitchen ….. I told James that we had to paint the front door …… and since the front door was being painted it would look wrong without a new screen door too Wink  Our condo will replace our front door in 2008 or 09 but we had to paint the old door to get by until then and we are responsible for the screen door so I figured we should just go ahead and get it now.  See how things just snowball during a reno????

And check out my flower garden, it’s still blooming beautifully and it’s October in Alberta!  Love these Wave petunia’s!

The Summer Garden

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

Well we had a change in Canada Day plans, we decided to stay home and get stuff done around the house!  We did go to the fireworks in Fort Saskatchewan though, they were pretty good!  Jamie tried taking pictures but we don’t have a good enough camera for that… oh well.

We got a late start to our summer garden, but it is now finally done.  I’m not much of a green thumb so I have to plant easy things that are hard to kill if ignored lol  I filled our raised bed with wave petunia’s and planted mums in a couple planters on the deck.  It adds colour Cheesy  I love this red!

The kids are all in daycamp this week, I am enjoying some quiet time every morning before work on my deck.  Sitting here with the latop or a book and drinking my Tim’s!  But why do gardens have to come wth so many bugs?  There are flies everywhere!  I don’t mind the occational bee, but why the flies????

Rowan has been behaving badly at camp, they had to call Jamie at work yesterday cause he was running with scissors and wouldn’t listen *UGH* He has been warned that he’ll be grounded if he doesn’t smarten up.  We sent them to bed nice and early last night and he wasn’t as much of a bear to wake up in the morning so *fingers crossed* he is his usual “angelc” sef for them today….
