And the Kitchen Reno begins!

Saturday, July 28th, 2007

We bought our new kitchen at Ikea last night!  Here it is flat packed in our livingroom, where it will stay until we get back from our holiday’s in a week lol  It’s the white Stat kitchen.

We ended up ordering a new countertop at Rona on Wed night, it’s Labrador Granite laminate, in a matte finish.  It should be ready in a  couple weeks, so things are moving along…. now we have to think about flooring colour and plan our demo!  I’ll be spending my 2nd week of holiday’s cleaning out the kitchen cabinets to get ready for it!  Here is the laminate colour.

It was after midnight before we got it all unpacked and the truck back to Jamie’s work.  We also picked up a sofa from the AS IS dept for $62!  We got a $200 GC for buying the kitchen so we used it on the sofa, here is Keely on it.  It’s a brown twill and very comfy.  Our old sofa was OLD and we used a slipcover on it, so we couldn’t say no to a new sofa at that price!  And I fell in love with the colour of it.  It just needs a little cleaning from being a display unit.

Well we are off tomorrow on our holiday’s!  I most likely won’t be posting any updates till after we get back, unless I get on dh’s laptop at the hotel on Thursday night.  I am very excited because Thursday I get to meet my new nephew Jacob who will be a week old then!  My step sister and her family live in Calgary so we’ll be stopping in to visit!

Everyone have a GREAT week!

PS, I just finished the next two Anita Blake books Narcissus in Chains and Incubus Dreams, both get a title  I have just started a small Nora Roberts book that was loaned to me by a friend, so I think I’ll bring it on holiday’s with me.  I think it’s called Enchanted?  Or Entranced?

Busy Busy Week!

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

I can’t believe it’s been over a week since I updated here, but I guess that’s yet another syptom of being too busy!

We are simultaniously planning our kitchen reno and our first big camping trip with the kids EVER lol  We have been buying camping gear, looking at cabinets and counter tops, running between Ikea and Rona every other night, and Ikea is a 45 minute drive away!  We have drafted our kitchen, we are getting the Stat white cabinets from Ikea, we have decided to get the laminate counters at Rona though, it’s a bit more $ but they are faster and we get Airmiles!  Now we just have to decide on a colour.  If you have any suggestions please leave a comment!!!!!  We have to order them before we go on vacation this weekend.  So with white cabinets, white appliances (the top of the white ceran stove is black with white speckles) and wood laminate floor what colour would YOU pick for your counters?  I want something neutral that will go with a lot of colour options for the wall because we haven’t decided on that yet.  Initially I was thinking dark, but now with the new stove in with the black top to it I’m not so sure…

I have also been working full time this week except for today, Keely is sick :(  so I have to take my first sick day at my new job.  Not sure what she has, but there was a fever, headache and tummy ache, hoping a day of rest will get her back in shape because I have to go to work tomorrow and then we have our holiday’s and she has to be better for that!

Summer Vacation Planning

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

We weren’t really on the ball with this whole vacation planning thing… We are booked for holiday’s at work the first week of August but we just realized a few days ago that we hadn’t really decided where we were going for sure, we had to ge on that so we could book camping sites and hotels!

We have decided to spend 4 nights (Sun-Wed) camping at Drumheller, so we can have a few lazy days to explore the Badlands.  The last time I went with Arran we were only there two days so we rushed around looking at stuff.  After Drumheller we’ll head to Calgary for two night’s, Thurday we will stay in a hotel and visit family, Friday we’ll spend at Calaway Park and camp at their campground.  Then the weekend we’ll drive home through the mountains with scenic stops at Banff, Lake Louise, the ice fields (where we’ll do the tour) a night tenting in Jasper National Park, then through Jasper and home to Edmonton.   I’m really looking forward to it!

We went shopping yesterday to update our camping supplies, bigger tent, couple more air mattresses, a campstove and bbq etc  I even made Jamie buy a swimsuit, as he didn’t have one, because “I don’t swim”… yeah we’ll see about that!

The Tooth Goblin

Saturday, July 7th, 2007

So you know those baby teeth that are loose FOREVER?  The ones that just keep hanging in there for months while the adult tooth grows in behind it….  It’s really wiggly but it just won’t fall out…. You and the dentist tell your child to wiggle it and get it out but they say “it HURTS I can’t wiggle it” and they complain that they can’t brush their teeth or eat apples because it HURTS!

Do you ever get sneaky????

Rowan had one of those teeth… until last night anyway when the Tooth Goblin paid a visit Clown

He fell asleep on the couch after refusing to let me have a look at his tooth all evening, so I thought I’d take a peak… I pulled down his bottom lip and gave it a little wiggle, he didn’t flinch…. so I did it again… he kept sleeping… I gave it a harder wiggle and realized if I just worked at it a bit it would come out, and since he wasn’t noticing anything I was doing I kept at it.  After a minute or so of wiggling on and off I felt it give way and there was a little bit of blood, so I wiggled a bit more and it popped out!  He closed his mouth right quick and I thought “oh no he’s going to swallow it!”  But then he made a face and spit it out!  He didn’t even wake up!

So this morning I said to him “notice anything different about your mouth?” and he looked at me a bit confused…. then he felt his teeth with his tongue and got a surprised look on his face, cocked his head to the side and said “my tooth is gone!”  So I told him what I did, he laughed and thought it was funny and then I showed him his little tooth, he went around showing it to everyone all proud. The only other tooth he lost he must have swallowed because we never found it, so he thought it was cool to check it out.

The Summer Garden

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

Well we had a change in Canada Day plans, we decided to stay home and get stuff done around the house!  We did go to the fireworks in Fort Saskatchewan though, they were pretty good!  Jamie tried taking pictures but we don’t have a good enough camera for that… oh well.

We got a late start to our summer garden, but it is now finally done.  I’m not much of a green thumb so I have to plant easy things that are hard to kill if ignored lol  I filled our raised bed with wave petunia’s and planted mums in a couple planters on the deck.  It adds colour Cheesy  I love this red!

The kids are all in daycamp this week, I am enjoying some quiet time every morning before work on my deck.  Sitting here with the latop or a book and drinking my Tim’s!  But why do gardens have to come wth so many bugs?  There are flies everywhere!  I don’t mind the occational bee, but why the flies????

Rowan has been behaving badly at camp, they had to call Jamie at work yesterday cause he was running with scissors and wouldn’t listen *UGH* He has been warned that he’ll be grounded if he doesn’t smarten up.  We sent them to bed nice and early last night and he wasn’t as much of a bear to wake up in the morning so *fingers crossed* he is his usual “angelc” sef for them today….
