Happy Long Weekend!

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

I am so glad this is a long weekend!  Well it is for Jamie, Arran and I.  Keely and Rowan start daycamp on Monday lol  The last week of school always seems so crazed, between  field trips, remembering which days I have to send a lunch, kids coming home with bags of STUFF I have to sort through, soccer ending, I don’t know if I’m coming or going.  And to top it all off I decided it woud be a good time to buy the boys new beds at Jysk and build them in the evenings….  I woke up Friday morning thinking it was Saturday and all confuzzled why Jamie had an alarm set!  Oh yeah we have to go to work today….

Wed night we spent 1 1/2 hours disassembling the boys Ikea bunk bed then reassembling it in Keely’s bedroom.  Thursday night we spent 2 1/2 hours building Rowan’s loft bed, we tried to build Arran’s new twin bed last night but after Jamie built all the legs he realized the headboard was a little bit to long.. turns ou they gave us a double, which wouldn’t have been a bad thing except there is not enough space in the boys room for it and we don’t have a double mattress.  Jamie called Jysk and found out they are sold out of the twin, we have to wait til Tues. night to exchange it, which is fine.  Jamie built Arran’s nightstand last night and still has a dresser to build so he’s feeling a little Jysk’ed out ATM lol

Tomorrow is Canada Day!!!!  We will be off to Fort Edmonton for Dominion Day most likely, it’s becoming traditional, then home for supper then Fort Saskatchewan for the fireworks, they put on a good display there and its a much nicer drive for us than trying to head downtown.  It’s only 15 minutes NE of Edmonton and all hwy driving, much less traffic!

Hope Everyone has a great Canada Day!

Currently reading Narcissus in Chains by Laurell K Hamilton, next in the Anita Blake series. Thumb up

Soccer Mom Guilt

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

We have a party on Thursday night with trophys and pictures handed out but soccer season is essentially over and I am SO HAPPY!  I love watching ds having fun playing soccer (U8), he is turning into a really great little goalie (see pic above) and is so proud of himself…. but man I am glad it’s over, I am so not an outdoor sport loving mom….  Soccer season here in Edmonton is only 2 months but the weather sucks!  Some nights we’re huddling in sleeping bags, others we’re getting a sunburn and eaten alive by squeeters, most of the game I’m thinking “is it half time yet?” then “is it almost over yet?”, that’s where my soccer mom guilt comes in…. I’m supposed to love it right?  title The bonus is the parents on his team are awesome and they make the time fly with joking and great conversation and sharing their Spitz, I’ve made some lovely friends over the last 7 years of soccer seasons Grin

Only 2 more months till INDOOR soccer season… at least it’s climate controlled.

Welcome to my First Blog!

Monday, June 25th, 2007

I’m Michele, 36 y/o and married to Jamie for 16 years.  We are transplants to Alberta, we moved from Ontario almost 11 years ago and love it here.  Our oldest son Arran is 13, our one and only daughter Keely is 9 and our youngest son Rowan is 7, oh and the cats…. Sassy and Sugar (also not so affectionately known by me as Stinky).  I’ve been a member of CPO officially since Feb of 2001, but it seems like much longer!  That’s a good thing… I really can’t imagine what this parenting journey of mine would have been like without this community.

We have an exciting, busy summer ahead of us that I’ll be sharing here in my blog.  We are currently in the process of renovating our wee condo.  When we bought this place 4 years ago we were hoping by this point to have sold it and moved into a bigger place but…. the Edmonton housing market has gone insane (along with the rest of Alberta), our condo may have tripled in value but the houses have skyrocketed as well, and we aren’t prepared to double or triple our mortgage payments quite yet.  So instead we have decided to fix up what we have and make it work for us.  The big project is an all new kitchen which I’m sure is going to create a lot of chaos in our lives!

This is my first summer as an almost full time working mom after 10 years as a SAHM and a few years with very flexible p/t jobs…. so I’m learning how to juggle summer, our work schedules, day camps, babysitters and summer holidays…. oh yeah and we’re renovating the condo, did it mention that?

I’m a VORACIOUS reader, so I’ll be keeping you all posted on what I’m currently reading, what I think of it, and what’s on my TBR (to be read) pile.  Please join me in the Chapter Chit Chat board to discuss summer reading; I’d love to hear what everyone else is enjoying Grin

Currently reading: Obsidian Butterfly, an Anita Blake Vampire Hunter novel by Laurell K. Hamilton. Thumb up A co-worker got me hooked on them after finding out that I had read all the Merry Gentry “fairy” series by the same author, and is letting me borrow them all, she’s a dear!  Of course after this one is another…. Narcissus in Chains and then there’s another and another….
