Theories and Guts

9:00 am August 19th, 2008

I have a theory.  Well….I have many many theories but I’m only going to tell you about one right now.  My theory is this:

“As soon as a mother says something out loud, the opposite will occur and ruin her life”

My theory has been proven over and over and over.  Everytime someone asks me if Taylor is sleeping through the night and I reply “yes she’s doing great” she reverts back instantly to waking up screaming through the night.  Everytime I say “the kids have been healthy lately”, one of them or usually both of them, get struck by some odd childhood illness. As soon as I praise Olivia for being such a good girl, the horns pop up and she becomes unbearable.

Fun Fair

8:58 am June 6th, 2008

Olivia’s school held a Fun Fair last night.  We were there for 2 hours and the kids went down a giant slide once, bounced in the bouncy house once, and had their faces painted.  The line ups were insane!! I felt like we were at Disney!  Despite the long lines, the kids had a ball and behaved very well.  Taylor surprised me by climbing all the way to the top of the giant slide which is no small feat for a girl her age/size – she had no fear.

My favourite part of the evening was when Olivia said something to Taylor and Taylor looked at her, threw her hands up in the air, made a strange face and said “what are you talking about Olivia?” as plain as day.  I think you had to be there to know how funny it truly was, wish I could press rewind on the kids sometimes and video tape the things they say and do.

Potty Training Bootcamp

8:38 am May 23rd, 2008

We have tried several times to potty train Taylor – she showed interest as long ago as December 2006 (see picture!) but has never followed through and after cleaning up a lot pee puddles we gave up and decided she could remain in diapers until she was a teenager.  After all, this would serve two purposes – 1) we wouldn’t have to clean up her accidents and 2) what boy would want to date a girl that craps in her pants?  READ MORE HERE

Fair Play

9:26 pm May 21st, 2008

Who you callin’ a carny?
We took the kids to the Fair this week. Every year they set up a little fair in the parking lot of our local grocery store, it involves about 10 rides, 5 game stations, and 26 strung out tattooed smoke blowing carny type staff members (not that there is anything wrong with that).   We have taken the kids before, several times before in fact. I’ve had to stop the Strawberry ride, stop the Merry-go-Round, and stop various other kiddy rides because of sheer terror or impending vomit.  Find out what happened HERE……

New Talents…

10:20 am May 16th, 2008

There are lot’s of things I try to teach the kids: counting, alphabet, tying shoes, being polite etc.
And then, there are some things they come up with all on their own, such as Taylor’s newest talent…… See It HERE
